WELCOME To Jim Glines Auctioneer
Although Jim Glines is not a Military Colonel, he does hold the title of Colonel. “Colonel” is an honorary title given to auctioneers in the US, with its history stemming from the Civil War.
During the Civil War, only a Colonel was allowed to decide how to divvy up the spoils of war among his winning soldiers, who would view and bid on the items they wanted. Although Jim did not have to win a battle, he will certainly take charge and fight hard for those winning bids!
Jim was awarded the Best "Auctioneer" in Santa Maria for 2021. Presented by the Santa Maria Award Program.

These photos were taken at the Cal Poly Annual Western Performance Horse Sale. The sale features Cal Poly horses trained and ridden by Cal Poly students under the guidance of Lou Moore Jacobson.
Merlin, A Cal Poly Horse Sold To A Great Home
Taylor Glines (Granddaughter of Jim and Kathy Glines and her 3 year old gelding, Merlin.
Taylor Glines rode Merlin from January to June and grew to love him. The pain of selling him at the Cal Poly Annual Western Performance Horse Sale began to haunt her, but some ranching folks from the Bay area came to look at Merlin a few times. Taylor grew to like them, and they purchased her great horse at the auction!
The pain of parting with him was eased when she realized Merlin was going to a great home. As she helped them load Merlin in their trailer, they told her that he would be working cattle by the end of the week!
A nice horse goes to a great home!
